Curators Freddy and Danny Jones are to be made honorary members of the South Alberta Regiment, Canada, on behalf of the For Freedom Museum

The For Freedom Museum is hosting The South Alberta Light Horse Regimental Association from Canada

The SALH Canada (South Alberta Light Horse Regiment of Canada) received a warm welcome at the For Freedom Museum last Monday during their biennial Battle of the Scheldt Bicycle Tour.
This week, the group of cyclists will follow the routes of battles from the First and Second World Wars where their regiment fought significant battles, such as Arras, Amiens, Vimy, Ypres and Passchendaele in the First World War, and, crucially during the liberation of our region in the Second World War, Moerbrugge and the Scheldt Pocket.
Initially, during the First World War, the SALH was a cavalry regiment, but at the outbreak of the Second World War it was reorganised into an armoured regiment. During the Battle of Moerbrugge, the regiment was not spared by the occupying forces, which is why the name ‘Moerbrugge’ is inscribed on their colour as a battle honour. The SALH is proud to count among its soldiers a Victoria Cross recipient, namely Major Dave Currie, who, for his bravery and leadership during the Battle of St Lambert-sur-Dives (FR) in August 1944, was presented with the VC by King George VI at Buckingham Palace.
It came as a great surprise to curators Freddy and Danny Jones when the chairman of the association, Mr Jason Watt, presented both of them with the"Honorary Membership of the South Alberta Regiment"presented, to loud applause from his Canadian travelling companions.
A great honour for the whole For Freedom Team.
