Welcome

011Welcome at the For Freedom Museum. On this page you will get a foretaste of what it is all about.

02When you enter the museum you will see our shop. After your visit you can drink a coffee, our local beer or a softdrink at the cafetaria.

03Due to the setup of the displays you are taking part of the action. From a German surrender in a local shed to a nightly crossing of a canal during operation “Switchback”.

04At the courtyard you will find the hangars were some exclusive vehicles are presented. There is a Buffalo on display and an German halftrack which was recovered from the Falaisepocket. There is even a German minisubmarine” Biber in german or Beaver” on display, a rarity as only about 350 were built. All the items on display played a role during the liberation of Knokke-Heist and are therefore representative.

14Bahaat (Belgian Aviation History Association Archaeology Team) has some excavated engines on display which were all hauled up from Flanders soil. A tailsection of a B17, a Daimler Benz DB 506 and an early Rolls Royce Merlin are a few of the items on display each telling it’s own story from the past.

16Our B-24 liberator replica was used in the Hollywood production movie “Resistance (2003)” with Bill Paxton and Julia Ormond starring. It’s scale (1/1) shows the shear size of this aircraft..

buffaloThe For Freedom Museum is alive and feeds your vivid imagination. Displays can alter as we do our best to replace certain artifacts and items by others to keep things intriguing for the visitors.
